Steam & Oak Barrel Sauna 3m with Canopy and Anteroom

Create a more inviting outdoor wellness space with the Steam & Oak 3m Barrel Sauna with Canopy and Anteroom. Designed for shared sauna sessions, quiet evenings and regular recovery rituals, this spacious garden sauna combines traditional timber construction with an enclosed changing area and an extended roof that provides extra shelter around the entrance.

Choose between gas, electric or wood-fired heating at checkout, or select the shell-only option if you already have a suitable heater.

Choose your heater

  • FinSteam Aurora 81 R14S Gas Heater – An electricity-free heating option with engineered ventilation, safety components, regulator, gas hose and sauna stones included.
  • Harvia PC70 6.8kW Electric Heater – A practical electric option for regular sauna sessions, requiring a suitable dedicated electrical supply.
  • Harvia PC90 9kW Electric Heater – A higher-powered electric option for faster warm-up.
  • Etna 12 Wood-Fired Stove with Flue Kit – Enjoy a traditional log-fired sauna experience. The package includes a chimney pipe and flashing kit.
  • Shell Only – Choose the sauna cabin without a heater if you prefer to source your own.

Why choose gas heating?

The FinSteam Aurora 81 R14S offers an alternative to conventional electric and wood-fired sauna heating. Running on propane, it does not require an electrical connection to operate, making it an option to consider for gardens where installing a dedicated sauna circuit may be difficult.

Feature Gas Wood-fired Electric
Typical warm-up Approximately 15–20 minutes Approximately 30–45 minutes Approximately 30–60 minutes
Electrical connection Not required to operate Not required to operate Dedicated electrical supply required
Chimney or flue Not required for the gas heater Required Not required
Smoke and ash No wood smoke or ash Produces smoke and ash No smoke or ash
Off-grid operation Yes, with a suitable propane supply Yes, with a suitable supply of logs Requires electricity
Indicative running cost Approximately £1.50–£2.00 per session Approximately £2–£4 per session Approximately £1.75–£3.25 per session

Warm-up times and running costs are estimates. Actual results depend on outdoor temperature, starting temperature, session length, energy prices and the selected heater.

What's included with the gas configuration?

  • Barrel sauna shell, canopy and anteroom – With alder benches and 8mm tempered glass.
  • FinSteam Aurora 81 R14S gas heater – 8.1kW output, with flame monitoring and an oxygen-depletion safety shut-off.
  • Orbis 14 stone cage – Designed to hold the sauna stones.
  • Halo safety rail – A protective rail around the heater.
  • Njord heat shield – Included with the heater package.
  • 40kg of pre-washed sauna stones.
  • UK propane regulator and 1.2m CE-marked gas hose.
  • Engineered gas-ready ventilation – Wooden louvre vents built into the cabin.

The gas ventilation configuration includes a low-level fresh-air intake of at least 350cm² beside the heater and a high-level exhaust of at least 250cm² in the opposite corner. Both are designed to connect directly to the outside.

The gas-heated configuration is priced at £8,090 including VAT. The Aurora 81 R14S gas heater is also available separately.

Gas heating costs and setup

With the Aurora 81 R14S gas heater, a typical session costs approximately £1.50–£2.00, with a warm-up time of around 15–20 minutes. Actual costs depend on propane prices, usage and the conditions in which the sauna operates.

You'll need to source a standard UK 13kg Calor propane bottle locally. For a fixed gas installation, a Gas Safe registered engineer is required. Check the heater's installation instructions and applicable safety requirements before use.

Gas vs electric: comparing the total cost

The purchase price is only part of the cost of setting up an outdoor sauna. An electric heater needs a suitable dedicated circuit, installed by a qualified electrician. Gas heating avoids the need for a dedicated electrical circuit to operate the heater, although installation costs may still apply depending on your setup.

Cost Electric configuration Gas configuration
Sauna and heater From £6,095 £8,090
Electrical installation estimate £800–£1,500 Not required to operate the gas heater
Estimated total £6,895–£7,595 £8,090

These are indicative comparison figures. Electrical installation costs depend on your property and the work required. Any applicable gas installation costs are additional.

Running costs for each heating option

  • Gas – Aurora 81 R14S: Approximately £1.50–£2.00 per session, with a typical warm-up of 15–20 minutes.
  • Electric – Harvia PC70 6.8kW: Approximately £1.75–£2.25 per 90-minute session, with a typical warm-up of around 30 minutes.
  • Electric – Harvia PC90 9kW: Approximately £2.00–£2.50 per session.
  • Wood-fired – Etna 12: Approximately £2–£4 per session for hardwood logs.

These estimates vary with energy prices, the length of each session and how frequently you use the sauna.

A canopy that makes outdoor sauna sessions more comfortable

The extended canopy roof projects beyond the entrance, creating a more sheltered transition between the garden and the sauna. It's particularly useful when the weather is changeable, helping provide extra cover as you move between the outdoors, the changing room and the heated cabin.

The enclosed 0.75m anteroom provides a separate space to change out of outdoor clothing, hang dressing gowns and keep sauna essentials close at hand. Together, the canopy and anteroom make the sauna feel more like a complete outdoor wellness space than a standalone cabin.

Choose the canopy version if you value extra shelter around the entrance, especially in exposed or coastal gardens. If minimising the roof overhang and external footprint is more important, consider the standard 3m Barrel Sauna with Anteroom.
