Our Assam Mangalam FTGFOP1 loose leaf black tea is a bold, premium single-estate Assam with deep amber liquor, rich malt and an exceptionally smooth, rounded finish. Golden tips bring natural sweetness and softness to the cup, while notes of cocoa, date and gentle stone fruit give this Special Selection real depth — a commanding breakfast tea that is equally rewarding with milk or enjoyed black.

Assam Mangalam FTGFOP1 Loose Leaf Black Tea from a Renowned Estate

Mangalam Estate is one of Assam’s most respected tea gardens, and its FTGFOP1 teas are widely admired for their abundant golden tips, dark amber liquor and rich, full-bodied flavour. Specialist retailers consistently describe Mangalam as a premium orthodox Assam with malty depth, spice and a naturally smooth finish, making it one of the standout estate teas in the category.

This Special Selection captures everything that makes the estate so appealing: strength without harshness, richness without heaviness and enough finesse to reward slower, more attentive drinking.

Bold Malt, Cocoa Depth and Natural Sweetness

In the cup, this Assam Mangalam FTGFOP1 loose leaf black tea brews to a deep, dark amber infusion with excellent clarity. The flavour is boldly malty and full-bodied, with warm cocoa-like richness, date sweetness and a gentle stone-fruit note emerging towards the finish.

The high proportion of golden tips contributes to a smoother, rounder texture than many robust Assams, giving the tea a rich but polished feel on the palate. Comparable specialist descriptions also highlight caramel, cocoa and ripe-fruit depth in Mangalam teas of this grade.

Premium FTGFOP1 Assam with Golden Tips

FTGFOP1, or Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe grade 1, denotes a carefully made orthodox leaf with a generous proportion of prized golden tips. In Mangalam, those tips are a defining feature of the tea’s appearance and character, signalling both careful plucking and a naturally sweeter, more refined cup.

Competitor pages regularly emphasise the long, wiry leaf, golden-tipped appearance and rich, malty character of Assam Mangalam FTGFOP1, supporting its position as a premium estate Assam rather than a standard breakfast tea.

A Commanding Assam for Breakfast and Beyond

Assam Mangalam FTGFOP1 is an excellent tea for the first cup of the morning. It has the depth and structure to take milk beautifully, yet enough smoothness and natural sweetness to be savoured black when you want to appreciate the quality of the leaf more fully.

It is one of those Assams that feels substantial without becoming coarse — a serious breakfast tea, but also a genuinely distinguished single-estate cup. It's on of our mose popular and one we drink in the mornings.

How to Brew Assam Mangalam FTGFOP1

Use freshly boiled water at 100°C and add one heaped teaspoon per cup. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes for a bright, full-flavoured cup, or extend to 5 minutes if you prefer greater strength and depth.

This tea takes milk especially well. If drinking it black, a slightly shorter brew of around 2½ to 3 minutes will keep the liquor smooth and balanced while preserving the finer cocoa and fruit notes.
